U.S. Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-8) secured $1.5 million in federal funds in a House of Representatives-approved appropriations budget that will go toward combatting flooding in Rockville.
“This funding for emergency operations and flood prevention in Rockville is an investment in the safety of our community and underscores the potential and promise of our federal and local government partnership,” said Raskin. “I look forward to seeing these projects signed into law and implemented.”
The House-passed appropriations bill includes $592,500 to purchase technology for the City of Rockville’s Emergency Operations Center. The money will fund pay for computers and display monitors so the city staff can direct and coordinate operations from a centralized location during an emergency, according to Raskin.
He also secured $900,000 for storm drain improvements in Rockville’s Potomac Woods neighborhood. The federal funding will enable the city to replace undersized storm drain pipes and upgrade a storm drain system outfall, allowing stormwater to drain faster.
