Residents with Hyundai vehicles can get free anti-theft software installed at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. through Monday.
“You don’t have to be a D.C. resident to participate!” the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) told residents on Twitter.
The initiative responds to “persistent thefts targeting certain Hyundai vehicles without push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices,” per a release from Hyundai. Hyundai Motor America is partnering with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and acting Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith.
Eligible vehicles are the 2018-2022 Accent, 2011-2022 Elantra, 2013-2020 Elantra GT, 2013-2014 Genesis Coupe, 2018-2022 Kona, 2020-2021 Palisade, 2013-2022 Santa Fe, 2013-2018 Santa Fe Sport, 2019 Santa Fe XL, 2011-2019 Sonata, 2011-2022 Tucson, 2012-2017 and 2019-2021 Veloster, and 2020-2021 Venue.
The mobile clinic runs Thursday through Monday, July 31 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in parking lot 8 (zone 1) and lot 8A at RFK Stadium at 2400 Independence Ave. SE, Washington, D.C. 20003.
No appointments are needed. Technicians will install and complete the upgrade. It is expected to take less than an hour.
Per a release from Bowser’s office, after having the upgrade installed, locking car doors with the key fob will set the factory alarm and activate an ignition kill feature. This way, the car cannot start when someone tries to steal it through “the popularized theft mode.”
Hyundai Motor America & @DCPoliceDept are providing a mobile service center at RFK Stadium from July 27-31. Any Hyundai owner, w/ an eligible affected vehicle, can have the free Hyundai anti-theft software installed. You don't have to be a D.C. resident to participate!#MCPNews pic.twitter.com/2wb6iz0gMP
