Results From Annual Report by Police to be Reviewed at Public Hearing

Montgomery County Councilmembers have scheduled a public hearing on March 18 to receive comments on the 2024 Montgomery County Police Statistical Data Report.

The police produced this annual report as required by law.

During 2024, there were 1,107 sworn officers on the force. That is 13 fewer than there were in 2023. Although the police department committed to recruiting more female officers, there were nine fewer female officers in 2024 than there were in 2023.

The department held 230 recruitment events last year. In 2023, there were 274, according to the report.

There were far fewer use of force in response to resistance that resulted in injury last year. There were 155 such incidents reported as compared with 252 in 2023.

Only three complaints were registered against officers in 2024. There were 17 in 2023.

Police handled 500 calls concerning overdoses in 2024, which is more than 200 fewer than the previous year. Also down were calls concerning controlled dangerous substances and driving under the influence calls.

The number of calls for assistance at homeless shelters was 1,462 last year.

Police officers clocked 172,690 hours of overtime in 2024. In 2023, the number of overtime hours was 122,549.
