Ride On Bus Service Changes: New Schedules and Routes Start Sept 8

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will make significant adjustments to its Ride On bus services starting Sunday, Sept. 8. These changes will include updated schedules for 23 existing routes and the addition of two new high-frequency, limited-stop Ride On extRa bus routes.

While overall service levels will remain stable, MCDOT will shift resources to improve reliability on high-demand routes. The updated schedules will be available on the Ride On website and in print at bus stops and transit centers.

Changes to Existing Routes

Several routes will experience changes in timetables, maps, or routing. Most adjustments are designed to improve efficiency and on-time performance. Notable changes include:

  • Routes 12, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 25, 43, 57, 58, 61, 63, 64, 66, 67, 73, 74, 75, 83, 97, 98, 100, and 101 will see changes in trip times.
  • Routes 43, 63, and 66 will have slight map changes.
  • Routes 56 and 301 will have minor routing changes without affecting maps or timetables.

New High-Frequency Ride On extRa Routes

Two new limited-stop, high-frequency routes will be introduced:

  • Ride On extRa Pink Route: This route will connect the Shady Grove Metro Station and the Traville Transit Center, serving the Shady Grove Road corridor and Life Sciences Center. Buses will run every 10 minutes during rush hours and less frequently during off-peak times and weekends.
  • Ride On extRa Lime Route: This route will provide an express connection from Shady Grove Metro Station to Rio, Crown Farm, and the Great Seneca Life Sciences Center via I-370. Buses will operate every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends.

Riders can check the new schedules on rideonbus.com. Ride On fares remain at $1 per ride, and monthly passes cost $22.50. Special fare programs are available for seniors, people with disabilities, and youth, who ride for free with specialized SmarTrip cards.
