Gaithersburg native and Quince Orchard High School alum Chop Robinson was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 21st pick of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft Thursday night.
Robinson, a 6’3”, 254 lb edge rusher, was a first team All Big 10 performer at Penn State last year. He started his college career at the University of Maryland before transferring.
Robinson weighed 14 pounds at birth and was given the nickname “porkchop” by his mom. When he grew up, he slimmed down and decided to shorten his nickname to “Chop” and it has stuck ever since.
Robinson watched the draft at home in Gaithersburg with family and friends.
Quince Orchard High School head football coach John Kelley told MCM, “Chop came to high school with the attitude he was going to outwork everyone. He also possessed elite athletic ability . When you combine those traits with outstanding character, you can see why he’s in the position he is now.”
What and outstanding day celebrating the ultimate accomplishment for this great young man!! Sky is the limit for him!! Special person on and off the field. #NFLDraft2024 #FirstRounder #MiamiDolphins #QOpride #PennState pic.twitter.com/zFvkZN8HtM
