Beall Avenue may soon become a work of art and the City of Rockville wants the public’s input.
Bloomberg Philanthropies awarded the Asphalt Art Initiative Grant to Rockville and 24 other cities. The grant will fund a mural on Beall Avenue for both beautification and pedestrian safety.
Data provided by Bloomberg Philanthropies claims that when “asphalt art” is added to problematic intersections, traffic crashes and unsafe driving decrease.

“The Asphalt Art Initiative has proven that when cities invest in these low-cost projects, streets become safer and communities become stronger,” Michael Bloomberg said in a release.
The City of Rockville is asking for community input on the design for the planned roadway mural. The survey asks residents to rate five designs and if those surveyed have any requests for symbols, themes or sentiments they would like to see in a future mural.
