Montgomery Couny residents can turn in their firearms in exchange for a $100 or $200 Visa gift card this Saturday.
Rockville City Police, in partnership with the Montgomery County State’s Attorneys Office, wants residents to voluntarily turn in functioning handguns, rifles and shotgun between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Redgate Park, 14500 Avery Road.
Police are offering a $200 Visa card for functioning assault-style weapons and privately manufactured ghost guns.
No identification is needed, and no questions will be asked by law enforcement.
The firearms must be unloaded and in the trunk of the vehicle. Gun owners must stay in their vehicles.
“Every gun turned in is one less gun that could be used in a serious crime, suicide, or domestic violence incident or accidentally discharged by a child. Keeping guns off our community streets, out of the hands of our youth and in our schools remains the highest priority for all,” according to a statement released by police.
The Rockville City Police Department is hosting a Gun Buyback Event on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at RedGate Park. RedGate Park will be closed for regular park usage from 6 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Aug. 26. Learn more about RCPD's Gun Buyback at https://t.co/M398W8pvrZ. pic.twitter.com/KTchE6EBlT
