The City of Rockville began its week of service and celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Saturday.
Mayor Monique Ashton, councilmembers and the city’s Human Rights Commission presented a documentary about racially segregated churches in Gaithersburg’s Quince Orchard community and enabled residents to participate in service projects through its Salute to Nonprofits.
The event also featured a panel discussion with local justice, equity, diversity and inclusion professionals; a drum performance by Soul in Motion; a kid-friendly performance by Groovy Nate; and craft activities for children.
We had a great time at today’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, hosted by the Mayor and Council of Rockville and Rockville’s Human Rights Commission! Thank you to all of our wonderful participants, panelists, nonprofits, volunteers and staff that made today’s event possible. pic.twitter.com/TV0czzjZKE
