Rasheed Duvall, of Rockville, was charged with burglary Montgomery County Police believe he committed while an apartment complex was on fire in Silver Spring.
Twenty-fire year old Melanie Díaz died in the fire while trying to escape the smoke and flames at the Arrive Apartments on Georgia Avenue.
On Feb. 18 at 6 a.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and police personnel were on the scene of a three-alarm fire. While they were evacuating the building, the emergency workers forced entry into several apartments by breaking locks and doors to check for occupants.
At the time, a suspicious person was seen exiting and then reentering the building and was hiding a Sony PlayStation 5, police said.
When some residents were allowed to return to the building, one person told police that his apartment had been burglarized and that a PlayStation was missing.
Police suspected Duvall, 43, and obtained a search warrant of his vehicle, where they found the PlayStation, they said.
Duvall was arrested Feb. 24 and charged with first-degree burglary and theft. He is being held without bond.
