An industrial fire in Rockville burned for around 7 hours Thursday and temporarily impacted the area’s air quality.
Responding fire rescue officials arrived around 11:45 a.m. at a quarry on Piney Meetinghouse Road, where numerous liquid asphalt tanks were burning, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
Piringer advised the area’s residents to close windows and limit time outdoors as a hazmat team assessed the situation.
“We hope that everybody in the surrounding neighborhood would consider this to be like a bad air quality day,” Piringer said in an afternoon press conference.
Crews extinguished the fire around 7 p.m. By around 8 p.m., Piringer said there was “little or no smoke to be concerned with.”
