An Odessa Shannon Middle School team leader for alternative programs has been charged with embezzling $161,000 from a dance studio in Rockville.

Erin Kelly of Rockville was indicted by a grand jury following an investigation by Rockville City Police.

According to the indictment, Kelly is charged with stealing $161,986 between Jan. 1, 2017 and May 31, 2022 from the Dawn Crafton Dance Connection in Rockville.  Grand jurors believed that Kelly “fraudulently and willfully” stole the money “while acting in the capacity of fiduciary.”

She is charged with a theft scheme involving more than $100,000 and embezzlement/misappropriation by fiduciary.

A spokesperson for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney said she could not comment on the case, because it is in pre-trial.

Kelly’s attorney, David Schiller of Rockville, said, “This case is pending, and there is an ongoing investigation.”

Kelly, 41, was released on an unsecured $100,000 bond. A trial is set for Dec. 9.

She was the head coach this summer of the Montgomery County Special Olympics Hip Hop Dance Crew, according to the Montgomery County Special Olympics website.
