Three-time Wells Fargo Championship winner Rory McIlroy has committed to play at this year’s event which will be played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm May 5-8. McIlroy is ranked 7th in the world, has 20 career wins on the PGA Tour including 4 majors.
Typically, the Wells Fargo event is played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC.
McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, is coming off an electrifying final round 64 at the Masters where he holed a difficult bunker shot on the 18th hole. He finished in 2nd place, three shots behind champion Scottie Scheffler.
McIlroy has fond memories of playing in Montgomery County. He won his first major title at the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda.
