Andrea Sarralde, community engagement and reporter at MyMCM, won the Woman of the Year Award during the 7th Annual National Latinas-USA Conference held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center on Saturday.
Latinas-USA’s founders Dr. Claudia Campos and Angela Franco said it was a day to discuss and address, through participatory, interactive and self-empowerment processes, the needs and priorities of Latinas in the USA. Nearly 500 Latino women attended the event including Councilmember Nancy Navarro and special guest Council President Gabe Albornoz who delivered the opening remarks. Albornoz was joined by his 6-year old daughter Teresita.
A video about Cecilia Perez, an immigrant from Venezuela, was produced by MyMCM and presented to the audience to share her story of resilience battling with her husband’s cancer diagnosis and her oldest son’s autism.
Sarralde received the prestigious award on Saturday during a private cocktail event.
Thank YOU @soylatinausa for this award! I am truly grateful. And thank you @mymcmedia for giving me the vehicle to tell my stories. 🙏🏼 @ Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center https://t.co/3LXqsIa8Am
