The school board is “taking another look” into sharing more from a redacted report that investigates the promotion of a former school principal.
“We have also heard your request for a better understanding of the Jackson Lewis findings, and we are taking another look at the report to see if there are any areas in which we could redact less,” Board of Education President Karla Silvestre said during a meeting Tuesday.
County Council President Andrew Friedson has said councilmembers want to see the unredacted report. The report was conducted after The Washington Post revealed that Dr. Joel Beidleman — no longer an MCPS employee — was promoted to Paint Branch High School principal despite numerous sexual harassment complaints against him. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) hired the law firm Jackson Lewis to conduct the report; the school board released a redacted version in October.
According to Silvestre, the report was redacted in compliance with the Maryland Public Information Act and contains personnel information about MCPS employees. Since the release of the report, personnel actions have been taken against those named, she said.
A separate report was released a couple of weeks ago by the county Inspector General that found deficiencies in the way MCPS handles complaints. On Thursday, councilmembers will have a meeting to discuss the report.
