Clarksburg High School has much to be proud of following the girl’s flag football team winning the state championship. But all Montgomery County Public School students and faculty also should be thrilled with the sport’s debut.
“One of the most impressive stats about flag football this year which was offered at all of our high schools is that nearly three quarters of the participants were not participants in athletics prior to their enrollment in flag football. That’s awesome,” declared Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor during a recent meeting with the Montgomery County council.
“That we found a way to engage kids in something, and the correlation between involvement in extracurricular activities and attendance is very strong. When kids are engaged in programs that they are excited about, and academics opportunities they are excited about, not just extracurricular activities, the outcomes improve,” Taylor said.
