Screen Time’s Impact on Eyesight

Several studies conducted in recent years are raising alarms about the amount of screen time children are exposed to on a daily basis.

Research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found 65.7% of boys and 64.6% of girls between 2 and 17 years old spend more than two hours of screen time a day on top of the screen time they already spend on schoolwork.

As retired pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Marshall Keys, explains one potential consequence  of too much screen time is the impact it can have on a child’s eyesight now and in the future.

MyMCM spoke with Keys who led a private practice in Rockville for more than 50 years:

In part three of My MCM’s conversation with Dr. Keys, he will provide tips to parents on how best to take care of their children’s eyes, when to get a child’s first eye exam, when it may be appropriate to get contacts for your child, and the criteria he thinks are important before he would recommend Lasik surgery to a patient.
