Seneca Valley Comes from Behind to Beat Churchill in Opener

Churchill finished the 2023 season 11-2 as the 20th ranked team in The Washington Post’s Top 20 season-ending poll.

Friday night, they opened the season at home against Seneca Valley, MCM’s MoCo high school football game of the week.

Despite trailing behind for most of the first half, the Screaming Eagles came back to beat the Bulldogs on their home field 14-10.

In the first quarter, Churchill senior quarterback Vasi Hallas found senior wide receiver Drew Menick for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

Bulldogs’ senior kicker Cole Hessman kicked a 35-yard field goal to make it 10-0 with about three minutes left in the first half.

Seneca Valley responded with a long drive capped by a 1-yard run by Zyion Addison to cut the lead to 10-7. Addison scored again in the third quarter to give the Screaming Eagles a 14-10 lead.

Seneca Valley sealed the 14-10 win with an interception in the final minutes of the game.
