More than 8,000 residents in the city of Gaithersburg are over the age of 64. And in the county, more than 174,000 residents fall into this category. Hundreds of area seniors are expected to attend Gaithersburg’s annual Active Aging Expo on Thursday, May 4 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park to learn about health and wellness, and living longer.
There will be educational talks, interactive demonstrations, and preventive screenings at the event. Not-for-profit organizations with information on health and wellness as well as businesses that specialize in serving older adults will have tables at the Active Aging Expo.
The Montgomery County Commission on Aging will be hosting a public forum during the expo focusing on technology that supports aging in place. The forum is also available virtually through Zoom. Register to attend virtually here. Presenters and panelists will describe technologies that are available to support aging in-place. Featured speakers are recognized experts in the field, including Scott Code, vice president of the Center for Aging Services Technologies.
No registration is necessary to attend the expo, however attendees may RSVP onine here. There will be a place for donations to the Gaithersburg Cares Hub at the expo. The free event takes place Thursday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, which is located at 506 South Frederick Avenue, next to Gaithersburg High School. The city’s senior center will be closed Thursday as staff will be assisting with the Active Aging Expo.
