Friday, September 13
Play Day in the Park
From 11 a.m.-noon, toddlers can explore the natural world around the Black Hill Discovery Center SEED Classroom. Families may explore at their own pace using nature play prompts. The event is free, but reservations are required. The Discovery Center is located at 10926 Lake Ridge Drive in Boyds. Learn more about the event and reserve a spot here.
VisArts Art Exhibit
The solo exhibit by artist Dunnie Onasanya at VisArts opened July 5 and continues through Sept. 29 in the 355 POD Space gallery. Onasanya describes her work as an exploration of Pan African modernism which delves into the connectedness of the historic and the abstract through color, texture and vibrancy. VisArts is located at 155 Gibbs Street, an easy walk from the Rockville Metro station. For more information about the exhibit, click here.

Long Branch Festival
Celebrate the dynamic neighborhood, businesses and culture of Long Branch with kids shows, live music and dancing Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at 5:15 p.m., enjoy dinner and Loteria in the park with the kids. Fresh Farm Market
The market operates every Saturday year round. Currently, the Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located in Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. Free. For more information and a list of participating farmers and producers, click here.
Harriet Tubman Day
Come out to Button Farm in Germantown on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. to learn about Harriet Tubman, who emancipated herself in 1849, through hands-on activities for all ages. Facilitators Venetia Bailey and Sally Colella, of Coming to the Table-Montgomery County (CTTT-Moco), will engage attendees in a conversation about “Freedom” between presentations by authors Anthony Cohen and Therese Taylor-Stinson. Coffee Klatch and Crafts: Hispanic Heritage Plates
The monthly Coffee Klatch and Crafts series continues Saturday with an exploration of the ceramic dish styles of Spain and Latin America. The event takes place at the Casey Community Center from 10-11:30 a.m. The session starts with an icebreaker while enjoying a warm beverage, followed by a craft. This month, the group will decorate a dish inspired by the vibrant and colorful folk traditions of Spanish speaking countries. Materials and step-by-step directions are provided. Cost is $10. Washington Ukrainian Festival
Bring your family and friends to the 21st annual Ukrainian Festival this weekend on the grounds of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring. Enjoy Ukrainian artists, dancers, crafts, children’s activities, Ukrainian food and a Kozak beer garden. Admission is $20 for the entire weekend, and free for those under 21. St. Andrews is located at 15100 New Hampshire Ave in Silver Spring.

Journey Around the World of Creativity
Join the fun at the Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion for a free afternoon of crafts, art exhibits, music, and more. Celebrate the new season with delicious treats. Music Everywhere with Teresa Jimenez
Kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with a bilingual musical afternoon at the Olney Library from 2-3 p.m. This is a family program for babies through age 8 and their families. Musician and teacher Teresa Jiménez will lead children on this musical adventure with breathing, singing, movement, dancing, and chances to play and shake along with instruments. Admission is free.
