Friday, September 6

Toddler Story Time

Introduce your little ones to the joy of reading at Potomac Library’s Toddler Story Time on Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children will enjoy stories and activities designed to develop language skills. The event is free, but tickets are required and available starting at 10 a.m. on Friday at the library, located at 10101 Glenolden Drive. Learn more about the event.

DC South Asian Festival

D.C. South Asian Arts Council inc. (DCSAACI), a local non-profit, is hosting a literary festival from September 6-30 at various venues in the region. The festival celebrates South Asian literature and culture. Visitors can purchase tickets for individual events. Tickets are for sale through the DCSAACI website.

Free Movie Night

Enjoy a family movie night at Long Branch Recreation Center on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. The center will screen ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ and provide popcorn and light refreshments. The recreation center is located at 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. Reserve free tickets and learn more here.

Cross Creek Club Local Park Cleanup

Montgomery Parks seeks volunteers to help beautify community green spaces, keep litter out of our streams, and protect wildlife. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, volunteers are requested to help clean up the Cross Creek Club Local Park. All cleanups are pre-approved for Student Service Learning hours and forms are provided after the cleanup. The park is located at 3530 Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring. Beltway Barks

Join Beltway Barks on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rockville Town Square for a day filled with adoptable dogs, live entertainment, and local pet vendors. Hosted by DC Actors for Animals, this fun-filled event offers something for every member of the family. Don’t miss the chance to find your new furry friend. Silver Spring Jazz Festival

13-time Grammy winning Afro-Cuban jazz legend Chucho Valdés will headline this year’s jazz festival Saturday from 3-10 p.m. With three stages of entertainment and multiple musicians set to perform, enjoy diverse jazz in this outdoor setting. Chucho Valdés performs on the Mainstage at 8:30 p.m. The Jazz Festival takes place on Veterans Plaza  at Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. Sunday, September 8

Sand Art Terrarium Workshop

Learn how to create a sand art terrariums at MWBC Shop Local’s hands-on workshop Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Craft a unique terrarium for air plants using turquoise and natural-colored sand, pebbles, and seashells during this 1 1/2 hour workshop. All materials are provided including a 6 inch glass bowl, sand, pebbles, seashells, air plants and moss. Cost is $70.  MWBC Shop Local is located in Rockville Town Square at 36D Maryland Avenue. Family Wellness Day

A free community health and wellness festival hosted by the Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) is set for Sunday in Gaithersburg. The event takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. rain or shine at Bohrer Park, located at 506 S Frederick Ave. There will be interactive activities to boost mental and physical well-being, a petting zoo, an obstacle course, face painters, games, music, food trucks, a raffle, and more. Silver Spring Arts & Crafts End of Summer Celebration

Paintings, art photography, hand-made jewelry, glass and wood products, home decor, clothing and accessories will be on display at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. Find more information here.
