Sharieff Appointed to Maryland Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention

Attorney General Anthony Brown appointed Montgomery County Resident Adileh Sharieff to the Maryland Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention, according to a statement he released Monday. The appointment comes at a “time of increased reports of hate activity in Maryland, including Anti-Muslim and Anti-Palestinian hate,” Brown said.

The commission, established by the Office of the Attorney General, focuses on finding ways to develop and improve strategies for hate crime prevention and evaluate the state laws regarding hate crimes.

Sharieff co-chaired the Muslim Cohort of the Montgomery County Council Anti-Hate Task Force and previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Islamic Center of Maryland and still volunteers for outreach programs with them. She partnered with many organizations in Maryland to combat food insecurity and other social issues.

Sharieff will serve in an acting capacity until she can be confirmed by the Senate in the upcoming 2025 legislative session.
