Sherwood, Walt Whitman Look to Win High School Basketball State Championships

The No. 1 seed Sherwood High School and No. 3 seed Walt Whitman High School boys’ teams are Montgomery County’s last remaining high school basketball programs alive in the playoffs. Both schools will look to win state championships this weekend.

Sherwood, which advanced to the Boys’ Class 3A finals after a 54-37 win over Old Mill High School on March 11, will have the opportunity to win a state championship when they play Baltimore City College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Walt Whitman advanced to the Boys’ Class 4A finals after they beat Charles Herbert Flowers High School 55-44 on March 12. The Bethesda-based school will have a chance to secure a state championship right after the conclusion of the Sherwood game, when they play Laurel High School on Saturday, March 15 at 6 p.m.

Both matchups will take place at the Xfinity Center at the University of Maryland, home of the Maryland Terrapins. Tickets to either game are $10 and can be purchased here. Children age six and under get in free. There is no parking fee for either event.
