A written threat about a shooting that was directed at one student was discovered at James Hubert Blake High School Monday.
According to a letter from Principal Shanay Snead, the threat was “also reported to school administrators by concerned students after a picture of the written threat was shared on social media. The message was written to indicate “there would be a shooting” and it was directed at an individual student.”
The message, which was found on a student’s desk, was not signed.
Snead wrote a second letter Tuesday, noting that school opened without incident.
Montgomery County Police officers were told about the threat and currently are at the school investigating, according to the principal.
Montgomery County Public School staff from the Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management are working “to help ensure that we have a safe, secure, and positive school environment,” Snead wrote.
He promised to keep the Blake community updated when more is discovered.
“We take incidents like this very seriously as the safety of our students, staff and visitors at James Hubert Blake High School is our first priority,” Snead wrote in the first letter.
Security currently is “enhanced” at the school and will be Wednesday as well.
