Customers are about to get a big break on back-to-school finds with Maryland’s Tax Free Week beginning Aug. 14.
From the second the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 14 through midnight on Aug. 20, qualifying items will be exempt from Maryland’s usual six percent sales tax.
Eligible clothing, footwear, and accessory items retailed at $100 or less will be sold tax free. Backpacks sold at $40 or less will be tax free, while more expensive backpacks will offer tax exemptions on the first $40 of the item.
Questions may be answered in Maryland’s Comptroller’s online guide, or by viewing the qualifying products sorted alphabetically in a digital list.
