The Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center in North Bethesda will close June 28 for renovations of at least two years, the center said in an email.
In an evaluation of the site, the department determined that more extensive structural modifications were needed in the project, demanding more time and a larger budget, the county’s Department of General Services said on its website.
“In addition, it was determined that the pool equipment and the HVAC systems were also at the end of useful life, and also require full system replacements,” they said.
The center said in the email that current annual passes will be valid at the county’s pools in White Oak, Olney and Germantown, as well as the new Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic center, scheduled to open Feb. 24.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause. As such we are offering pro-rated refunds on passes that expire July 1, 2024, or later should you choose not to use another facility. Pro-rated refunds must be requested in writing, either by US mail or email, by June 28, 2024,” the center said in the email. “Requests can be emailed to rec.financeoffice@montgomerycountymd.gov or mailed to Montgomery County Recreation, Attn: Finance Office, 2425 Reedie Drive, 10th Floor, Wheaton, MD 20904. Pro-rated refunds will only be issued from July 1, 2024, through the expiration of your pass. Once a refund is issued, passes will no longer be valid and admission fees will apply to future visits.”
