Update at 2:30 p.m.: According to a Pepco spokesperson “about 100 customers have had power restored” and the power outage was caused by a “broken cross arm on a utility pole.”
A “significant” power outage in and around downtown Bethesda is affecting “about 760 customers” according to Pepco.
Marc Korman, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon.

Power is out at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road/Arlington Road/Wilson Lane/St. Elmo Avenue in downtown Bethesda.

Some residents reported hearing “booms.” One told MCM she heard “3 or 4 booms” around 12:15 p.m. as power went out in her house.
Pepco’s website estimates that power will be restored by 3 p.m.
Pepco told MCM that “our crews are out there trying to figure out the causes and are working safely and quickly to restore power.”
