Silver Spring Chamber Celebrates 31 Years

The Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 31 years of service Wednesday night at the AFI Silver Theatre by honoring its members and installing its new board.

“This community is like no other, and I will shout that to the moon,” declared Stephanie Helsing, president and CEO of the chamber.

Outgoing Board Chair Scott Reading from Eagle Bank welcomed in his successor, Juanita Stewart, senior property manager at The Pederson Companies. She is the first Black woman to chair the chamber.

U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day, delivered the keynote speech by video from his home. He praised small business owners and gave a lengthy list of the federal dollars he has brought to the community to help it, and surrounding areas, prosper.

The Bruce H. Lee Service Award went to Ed Fineran, president of Atlantech Online for his “investment, commitment and dedication to Silver Spring.”

The three business champions named during the event were Dunathan Consulting, LLC; Zipin, Amster and Greenberg LLC; and Urban One, Inc.

The non-profit of the year was CCI Health Services, which took home the gold medal. The silver medal went to Interfaith Works, and the bronze was awarded to One Montgomery Green.

Austin Marler and Jeffrey Wuerstlin were named Montgomery County police officers of the year. They were praised for always responding to the business community needs caused by crime and the pandemic.

The Trail Blazer of the Year award went to E.J. Silk of Joseph W. McCartin Insurance. Pam Feinstein of A Wider Circle was named Volunteer of the Year.
