Montgomery County Police identified the victim as Jalahni Antonio Harrington, 18, of Gaithersburg. When police arrived, Harrington was in the stairwell of the apartment building suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
As of Tuesday morning, no suspect was in custody.

An adult male was pronounced dead after being shot Sunday at an apartment building on 2001 Treetop Lane in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police.
When police arrived at the apartment building at about 7:20 p.m., they saw an adult male suffering from trauma. They provided life saving measures, but he did not survive.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
