Maikol Darinson Vicente Gomez, 24, of Silver Spring was arrested in connection with attempting to assault three people with a machete.
According to Montgomery County Police, on Jan. 5 at about 5:45 p.m., Montgomery County police officers from the 3rd District responded to Broadbirch Drive and Tech Road following a report of male armed with a machete.
The suspect ran through a parking lot of a shopping center as police arrived. He struck several parked vehicles with the machete. As police chased him, the suspect tripped and fell, causing him to drop the machete. He was taken into custody.
During an investigation, three victims told police that the suspect tried to assault them with the machete “for no apparent reason.” They were all able to flee to a secure location.
Gomez was charged with three counts of first-degree assault and second-degree assault, two counts of vandalism, resisting arrest and other charges.
He currently is being held without bond.
