Silver Spring Man Indicted on Child Sexual Abuse Charges

David Alain Schmidt, 43, of Silver Spring, has been indicted on charges related to production and possession of child sexual abuse material. 

According to the indictment, Schmidt allegedly enticed a minor to produce child sexual abuse material as well as possessing sexually explicit images of a minor victim in October 2024.

If convicted, Schmidt would face a mandatory sentence of 15 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material and up to 10 years in federal prison for possessing child sexual abuse materials.

This case is part of project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative that was launched by the U.S department of Justice in May 2006 to address the growing crisis of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Acting U.S Attorney Selden praised Montgomery County Police for their efforts in the investigation.
