A Silver Spring man was sentenced to prison for the killing of a 17-year-old several years ago inside the victim’s home, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).
Daniel Howard, 29, was sentenced Friday in circuit court to serve 23 years in prison, according to MCSAO. He will get credit for three years served.
Howard pleaded guilty in June to second-degree murder for the death of 17-year-old Christian Matthews in 2017.
In February, Leaundra Matthews, 26 — the victim’s sister — was found guilty of second-degree murder in this case and was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison. MCSAO previously stated that Tysean Lipford — Leaundra Matthews’ boyfriend — was convicted and sentenced in 2019 and is serving a 30-year sentence.
Per MCSAO, in March 2017 Christian Matthews was attacked and fatally strangled by Lipford and Howard while he was sleeping in his family’s home on Mondrian Terrace in the Fairland area.
Also, Lemae Matthews — Leaundra Matthews’ twin sister — pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and awaits sentencing in this case, according to MCSAO. She has a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 16.
