A Montgomery County man urges everyone to scan their instant tickets after scratching them to check for hidden wins. This habit led him to win $100,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.
The Silver Spring man thought his ticket was a non-winner, but he always scans his tickets to be sure. This time, scanning revealed he missed seeing the $100,000 prize and was actually a winner.
“I had goosebumps. I didn’t believe it,” he said, smiling. After seeing the winning message, he rechecked his $50 ticket and found he matched the winning number 13. The matching number, buried at the bottom, had a $100,000 prize underneath.
He told Lottery officials he plans to use his prize to pay bills and might consider a home renovation. He has been on a winning streak, having won $1,000 last week on another scratch-off. “It is just a blessing. I never dreamt I would win that type of money,” he said.
KW Beer and Wine, at 8513 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, sold the winning ticket. The $5,000,000 CASH game was Maryland’s second most popular scratch-off for the week ending May 12.
This is the game’s first $100,000 winner, with nine second-tier prizes still unclaimed. Three of four top prizes of $5,000,000 remain available. A Silver Spring woman claimed the top prize of $5 million in March. Many prizes ranging from $100 to $10,000 are still available.
