Following the Dec. 21 murder of a 62-year-old man in a Silver Spring parking garage, concerns about crime in the area have risen. County Executive Marc Elrich addressed the topic at his last media briefing on Dec. 28.
Elrich cited increased pay and larger recruitment classes as measures taken recently to get the police force numbers back to full capacity. And while homicides in the county have decreased with a 100% solve rate for 2022, Elrich stated an increase in the number of officers would also do much to spread the load of crime prevention more evenly across the county.
