The Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center is set to open in early 2024, according to the Silver Spring and Takoma Park Community News.
The center will include “three pools, a community center, a fitness center, and a gym.” The three pools will be used for competitions, laps, and recreational purposes. There will also be “a social hall, a teaching kitchen, a fitness area … a basketball court … and game rooms” and Holy Cross Hospital is offering a senior wellness center on site.
The Center will house the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame featuring a sculpture of Olympic gold medalist in women’s gymnastics and Silver Spring native Dominique Dawes.
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County and the Lee Development Group are planning to develop “887 residential units and … retail space in two apartment buildings that will be located on either side of the recreation center.”
“We are pleased to be nearing the opening of this first-of-its-kind facility in Montgomery County,” said Director of Montgomery County Recreation Robin Riley. “The Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center, located in the Central Business District of Silver Spring, is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Housing Opportunities Commission and many other partners as we open this facility to the public in early 2024.”
The 120,000 square foot building will be located at 1319 Apple Ave.
