Silver Spring Standoff Ends with SWAT Team Arrest

A barricade situation in Silver Spring that took place between Friday to Saturday ended with the victims safe, and a Montgomery County SWAT arrest.

According to the county police department, at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Friday, officers arrived at the 14800 block of Melfordshire Way in response to reports of a barricaded subject.

Police called the department’s Emergency Response Team to assist after learning the suspect was allegedly holding his girlfriend and her child inside the home.

Police say the situation partially deescalated after the woman and her child exited safely. However, the suspect reportedly remained barricaded alone within the house.

According to police, despite hours of negotiations with the suspect, he refused to surrender to officers.

At approximately 1:08 a.m. on Saturday, officers from the department’s SWAT team entered the residence and took the suspect into custody.

Police have yet to release the identity of the suspect and potential charges. Additionally, police reported no injuries during the incident and have not indicated whether the suspect was armed.
