A Silver Spring educator was all smiles after winning a $31,714 lottery ticket she purchased from the Giant grocery store at 18250 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg.
The 34-year-old woman, who is using the nickname “Disco” for Lottery publicity, bought a $2 FAST PLAY Gold Fish ticket while shopping at the Gaithersburg Giant last week.
“Something told me to buy a ticket. I went with my gut,” “Disco” said in a release.
After buying the ticket, “Disco” said she took it to her car and used the Maryland Lottery app on her smartphone to see if she won. After scanning the ticket, a “Go to Lottery” message appeared, so she checked herself to see exactly how much she had won.
“I saw that I had three turtles under the progressive jackpot line. I knew that I had won,” she said.
According to Maryland Lottery, the FAST PLAY Gold Fish game features a progressive jackpot that starts at $2,500 and grows with each ticket sale until a winning ticket is sold.
“Disco” said she would most likely use her winnings to buy a new car and place the rest of the prize into her savings account.
Also benefitting from the winning ticket is the Gaithersburg Giant, as they will receive a 1% bonus of $317 from Maryland Lottery for selling the $31,713 winning ticket.
The FAST PLAY game began on Sept. 2022, and “Disco” is the 5th of 20 progressive jackpot winners. There are still plenty of winning Gold Fish tickets left, with prizes ranging from $2 to $1,000 as well as the jackpot, according to Maryland Lottery.
