MerMagic Con, marketed as the largest mermaid convention in the world, is coming to Montgomery County. The convention will take place in Silver Spring this weekend at the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center.
Hundreds of mermaids are expected to attend the festivities, which will begin on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. and conclude on Sunday, March 2 at 5 p.m.
Activities will be provided for several age groups. Children ages 12 and under will have access to unlimited swimming and a variety of lessons. Tickets for children ages 3 and under will be free.
Attendees ages 13 or older will have access to dance lessons, underwater photography, pearl jewelry making and underwater performance workshops. For event availability and a full calendar, visit the convention’s website.

The convention will also feature a vendor hall with mermaid-themed merchandise and artwork. Sponsors such as the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and mermaid tail and apparel vendor Mertailor will be in attendance.
A separate MerMagic Con Gala, which will include an open beer bar, signature cocktails and a red-carpet event, will take place at the aquatic center from Saturday, March 2 from 8-11 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older.
