A rising third grader at Snowden Farm Elementary School in Clarksburg won the Maryland Council on Economic Education’s Personal Finance an Economics Poster competition.
Nirvi Vengurlekar was one of 21 winners throughout the state and the only Montgomery County winner. More than 900 students entered the annual contest for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Students demonstrated their understanding of an economic concepts with their artwork. They created posters about scarcity; natural, human and capital resources; opportunity cost; producers and consumers; goods and services or personal finance concepts including savings, investing, taxes, markets, sources of income and philanthropy.
The Council on Economic Education operates in Maryland schools to help students graduate with economic and financial literacy knowledge and decision-making skills for life.
