A family was displaced following a house fire Wednesday morning in South Kensington.
Two adults, two kids and a dog are displaced, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters responded to Parkwood Drive off of Knowles Avenue.
Damage is estimated to be about $50,000. Piringer stated smoke alarms alerted the occupants and they got out.
The fire started in the basement, according to Piringer, in or around a stand-alone dehumidifier which was plugged in and operating, “but likely unnecessary due to low humidity in winter.”
