Due to recent speed limit reductions, all Rockville streets now have a limit of 35 miles per hour or less.
The updates were made after the city’s April announcement to change the speed limit on Veirs Mill Road (MD 586) from 40 to 35 miles per hour.
The city worked with the State Highway Administration on the road changes after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Veirs Mill Road in April.
Some lanes of Veirs Mill Road were closed on the weekend of June 7 to initiate narrower lanes and install the speed limit updates. The change will apply to part of the road between Edmonston Drive and Twinbrook Parkway. The eastbound posted speed already stands at 35 miles per hour.
The speed limit reductions reflect the city’s and county’s Vision Zero Action Plan, implemented to eliminate traffic-related deaths and injuries.
