Montgomery Community Media (MCM) was the place to be this week for young, aspiring sportscasters. 45 kids ages 10-18 came to MCM for a Play-by-Play Sports Broadcasting Camp, the nation’s largest such camp according to Neil Hartman who was a longtime sportscaster in Philadelphia now the camp director. Hartman told MCM what his favorite part of the camp is.
“The best part is just meeting the kids and getting to know these kids from one city to another…Our kids have a great opportunity to work in a professional environment here at MCM which we’re very appreciative (of). When the kids walk into that studio and see it and their eyes light up and they see the studio and they see the lights and the camera, they’re getting excited being a part of what is very unique opportunity for kids at this age. I just love seeing their enthusiasm, their interest in this broadcasting field and I’m excited about producing sports broadcasters for years to come.”

The camp, which started in Philadelphia in 2002, is now in 14 cities across the country. Over 1,000 kids have come through over the years.
Guest speakers at the MCM studios this week have included Commanders safety Quan Martin, Caps radio voice John Walton, Wizards radio analyst Glenn Consor and Caps pre and postgame host Alexa Landestoy.
“So fun to learn from the next generation, make sure they instill that passion, keep working hard, dream and anything is possible but this camp and these facilities are top of the line and incredible experience for all these kids to get,” Landestoy told MCM.
