State police said a suspected impaired driver struck a state trooper who was in his car in a work zone on the Beltway early Wednesday.
According to Maryland State Police, after 1 a.m. Wednesday, the state trooper was in his marked patrol car with the emergency lights on in a work zone on the I-495 outer loop by Greentree Road in Bethesda.
Police said Nithya Ramani, 37, of Montgomery Village drove a Honda Accord into the work zone and struck the right rear of the trooper’s car. Both cars were towed.
Ramani was uninjured. According to police, she was charged with driving under the influence. She was arrested on the scene after troopers observed signs of impairment.
Police said the trooper was not transported from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
