A Germantown woman won $30,000 from the Maryland Lottery playing a holiday-themed scratch-off ticket she found in her Christmas stocking.
The 18-year-old college student, whose name was not identified by the Maryland Lottery, recently redeemed her winnings at the lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Accompanied by her parents, her father told lottery officials, “We gave [the tickets] to her as a stocking stuffer.”
This was her first time playing the lottery and she describes winning as, “A shocking and weird feeling. It was surreal.”
She plans to put the winnings into her savings account.
The Shoppers in Germantown earns a $300 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
