A storm swept across Montgomery County on Thursday evening, knocking down trees and power lines, causing some outages.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Spokesperson Pete Piringer says several homes were damaged in the Bethesda Battery Park neighborhood near Old Georgetown Road, including two houses on the 7800 block of Marion Lane. Although there were no injuries, two families were displaced as a result. According to a Marion Lane resident, one of the trees that fell is more than 200-years-old.
In addition, there were numerous lightning strikes in the area of Muddy Branch Road near I-270 and in the area of Tuckerman Lane, which caused downed wires. Piringer says other parts of the county also experienced pea-sized hail and heavy rain.
Roads in the area of Old Georgetown Road near Huntington Parkway were closed but are expected to be open soon as crews continue to clean up storm damage and restore power, according to MCFRS officials.
