With the 4th of July right around the corner, Wallethub has released a study on the most patriotic states in the country. Maryland ranked 6th overall with a total score of 56.25. The top five are Alaska (65.57), Montana (61.46), Virginia (58.97), North Dakota (58.43), and Oregon (56.42). The least patriotic state is Arkansas with a score of 28.62.
Maryland’s other rankings include:
22nd – Average number of military enlistees per 1,000 civilian adults
15th – Active duty personnel per 100,000 civilian adults
3rd – Peace Corps volunteers per capita
5th – % of adults who voted in the 2020 Presidential election
15th – Volunteer rate
1st – U.S. History or Civics education requirement
4th – Volunteer hours per resident
23rd – AmeriCorps volunteers per capita
The total score is tabulated by using a total of 13 metrics between two categories, military engagement worth 25 points, and civic engagement worth 75 points. Maryland ranked 23rd place in military engagement and 7th place in civic engagement.
