Sugarloaf Mountain, which has been closed to hikers for about two months following a break in, reopened Tuesday with new restrictions and the use of security cameras.
According to Stronghold Incorporated, which owns the property in Frederick County near the border with Montgomery County, a person had attempted to enter the Strong Mansion on Aug. 19. Physical evidence was collected at the scene, including a DNA sample, and security camera footage is being reviewed.
Security cameras were installed throughout the property, and photos of all vehicles entering the property and their tag numbers will be taken.
According to the website, visitors may no longer park in the crossroads or “square.” This was done to “keep the intersection clear of inappropriately parked vehicles, eliminate late night loitering, and stop after hours entry onto the Stronghold property,” according to its website.
The change also was made so there could be room for emergency vehicles during emergency, according to the website.
The park will be open from 8 a.m. to sunset with the front gate closing at 4 p.m.
No one should be on the property after sunset. Vehicles parked on the property after sunset will be towed at the owner’s expense, according to the website.
Directional traffic control spikes have been installed to prevent vehicles from traveling the wrong way up the mountain exit road.
