A suspect wanted for a Dec. 4 murder in the White Oak Shopping Center was arrested Saturday.
Markus Tyrell Dowdy, pictured, was located in Takoma Park and taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls, according to Montgomery County Police (MCP). The 33-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder of Marvin Jefferson and multiple related assault and firearms charges. He is being held in the Montgomery County Processing Unit, according to police.
On Saturday, Nov. 4 around 5:51 p.m. police and fire rescue personnel responded to America’s Best Wings in the 11200 block of New Hampshire Ave. for a shooting. Officers found two men with gunshot wounds. Jefferson was found outside the restaurant and the second man was found nearby.
According to police, an altercation between the two victims and Dowdy inside the restaurant led to the shooting. Both victims were taken to a hospital where Jefferson was later pronounced dead. The second victim, who had serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was released from the hospital.
MCP detectives identified Dowdy as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant on Sunday, Nov. 5. Dowdy was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 2 by U.S. Marshalls and charged with first-degree murder and multiple related assault and firearms charges.
Dowdy is currently being held in the Montgomery County Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 29.
