A suspect has been charged in the recent murder of a Olney teenager in Puerto Rico.
Tommy Grays III, 17, was with two family members on the beach when an altercation broke out at the Isla Verde beach resort, according to local authorities. Grays was killed in the confrontation. NBC4 Washington reports Gray’s stepfather was also shot in the face and hospitalized. Other outlets said Gray’s uncle was also injured.
Grays was a rising senior at James Hubert Blake High School.
Police have charged Carlos Anibal Rosado Martinzez, 23, with the murder of Grays. Rosado Martinez turned himself in on July 7, after authorities initially could not locate him. He faces murder and attempted murder charges.
“It’s being spun as if the tourist was the aggressor in the situation, and that’s not the case at all,” Gray’s father, also named Tommy Grays, said in an NBC 4 interview.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the Gray family move Tommy’s body back to the United States. It has already surpassed its $15,000 goal.
“Don’t take your time with [your children] for granted,” Gray’s father said in the NBC interview.
