Takoma Park drew closer to opening of its renovated library as officials celebrated a topping off ceremony Tuesday, marking completion of the structural phase of the project.

Mayor Talisha Searcy, State Sen. Will Smith Jr., County Council Vice President and former Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart, State Del. Lorig Charkoudian and other dignitaries joined together to sign the last steel beam.
Work on the library and community center at Philadelphia Avenue is expected to be completed by September of 2025.
Work includes updating HVAS, electrical and plumbing infrastructure, adding solar panels and creating more space through an improved floor plan. Stormwater infrastructure will be installed along Philadelphia Avenue and the roof will be redone.
During renovation, the library temporarily is located at 7505 New Hampshire Ave.
