Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) health emergency, the City of Takoma Park is taking caution by restricting the usage of playground equipment.
A post on the City Manager’s blog said: “Unfortunately, the City of Takoma Park is not able to ensure that the surfaces can be kept sanitized nor keep children from playing closely together on the equipment. For that reason, I am asking my Public Works staff to fence off the play equipment. And, we will be putting up signs and taking other actions to encourage folks to keep social distancing while playing.”
The post said city officials made the decision because the National Institutes of Health’s research indicates that the coronavirus is detectable on some surfaces like plastic for up to three days.
Although the play equipment will be fenced off, Takoma Park’s city parks will continue to remain open.
